Save Money on Expenses

  • Wormsmart Tanks & Systems run on very little (if any) electricity. Passive systems can work using gravity alone and what little electricity is required by a pumped system can be sourced entirely from a standalone solar power system.
  • Wormsmart Tanks & Systems are built to last a lifetime. They require very little maintenance, so there are minimal servicing costs.
  • Unlike a septic tank, Wormsmart Tanks & Systems do not require costly pump-outs.

How do we achieve this ?

  • By looking to nature for the answer and the solution here is how it works:
  • Wormsmart Tanks & Systems don’t produce any methane gas, always present in non-vermiculture systems.
  • Wormsmart Tanks & Systems don’t require a sucker truck to visit the property every three to five years to pump out accumulated sludge from your tank.
  • Wormsmart Tanks & Systems worms love your kitchen scraps and are great garbage grinders.
  • Worms eggs and worm castings will aerate your soil and improve the quality of the soil with rich nutrients.

All Wormsmart Tanks & Systems are built to last a lifetime with the emphasis on quality, and the continuation of providing products that are all Carbon positive and sustainable.

How it works

Wastewater enters the system

All greywater and blackwater from your property is plumbed into the tank through one wastewater pipe. There's no need to separate them (unlike other systems). The worms even love food scraps from your kitchen insinkerator!

Nature does its thing

The worms then break down all of your waste and turn it into an organic humus. As the aerobic bacteria feed on this humus, they further cleanse and treat the wastewater as it filters through the tank.

Then it's gravity's turn

From the bottom of the tank, a gravity pipe runs to a small flout tank, which is a natural dosing system. From the dosing flout, a single pipe carries the water to the drainage field. If your property is on a level site and we need to give gravity a hand, we simply install a small electric pump and you won't need the dosing tank. Our lightweight pumps use very little power.

Your water is recycled

The water that leaves the system is colourless, odourless and nutrient-rich. It also contains smaller worm eggs and castings, which helps aerate your soil and fertilise your gardens. Your irrigation field can be buried out of sight, or mounted on the surface if more practical (e.g. in the bush amongst tree roots).
